About Us

The RLS Career Center, CNY's Career Development Specialists since 1974, provides career information, assessment, and advisement for individuals and businesses in the community. Clients include dislocated workers, career changers, underemployed, chronically unemployed, and displaced homemakers. Empowerment and taking responsibility for one's own career development are the major emphases of RLS Career Center programs.

Services and resources provided by the RLS Career Center to assist in developing a career include:
One-to-one career counseling
� follows a model of six one-hour sessions
� involves assessment of an individual's skills, interests and values
� presents a broader view of the world and opportunities in a variety of occupational possibilities
� includes decision making, job search tools, resume writing, and interviewing strategies
� empowers client to determine his own needs, and the process is tailored to address those needs

Displaced Homemaker Program
� presents job readiness training workshops
� provides computer and job retention skills training
� offers job counseling and case management
� maintains and supplies community resource information and referrals
� supports and empowers displaced homemakers who need to become self supporting

Education Information Connection
� collects, formats and disseminates information about education and training opportunities in Onondaga and surrounding counties
� contains information of over 700 subjects offered by over 200 providers and 7000 college credit courses
� offers short term career and education advisement to individuals at RLS, the public library and Community Centers at no cost
� facilitates job search and education planning workshops at sites where the economically and academically disadvantaged meet

Corporate Services
� offers career development assistance, outplacement, retirement planning, spouse relocation assistance and customized workshops to corporations, businesses, government and organizations in the community

Resource Center
� presents occupational information, job hunting strategies, college profiles and financial aid search, resume writing and interviewing skills, personal growth and entrepreneurship via written material and computer databases
� offers CHOICES, a self directed computer program that assists in career guidance through offering occupational and educational information
